What is Happy Studio?

Happy Studio is a unique, safe and completely FREE digital world created by McDonald's designed to engage and entertain kids and their families!

It's jam-packed with fun educational games, activities, sharing and rewards both online and offline. New content featuring many of your favourite characters is added each month to encourage exploration and discovery!

    Happy Studio is a 360° experience for kids and their parents to enjoy. Each month new famous character friends are at McDonald's waiting for you in your Happy Meal box, on posters, and on the trayliners. But that's not all, they will also be visiting online with games, secret missions, exclusive gifts, rewards and much more!

    There's even a free mobile app for iPhone and Android with more games to play. Use the app to scan glyphs at McDonald's restaurants to unlock collector cards, games and even receive rewards in Happy Studio.

    All this without any subscription fee!

    Have fun with your children by playing games on Happy Studio, downloading printable activities to do offline, or trying one of the family moment suggestions on the back of the cards from the Happy Studio app! Here are some more things you can do together on and offline:

    • Launch secret missions using the Mission Code found on the Happy Meal box
    • Check the Gift Centre in the Grown Up Dashboard to see what creations your children have made for you
    • Print off puzzles, mazes, colouring pages and more to do offline with the whole family
    • Find & scan glyphs from Happy Meal boxes and elsewhere in McDonald's restaurants to get cool stuff
    • Reward your kids with Stars! Stars are the tokens of the world used to get fun items for their avatars and gates

    Happy Studio is all about creating a fun and safe environment for kids online!

    • No advertising, food or product promotion
    • No external links in the kids section, except for sites owned by McDonald's built for specific Happy Meal programmes
    • Safe "list-based" chat

    We've partnered up with TRUSTe and Media Smart to ensure that Happy Studio is doing everything possible to create a positive and safe online experience for children.

    • TRUSTe is an internationally recognized organisation,that vets and guarantees the privacy of you and your children's data online. TRUSTe is a member of the U.S. Department of Commerce's European Union (EU) safe harbor framework.
    • Media Smart, supported by the UK and EU governments, develops tools for teachers to help children think critically about advertising

    Talk to your children about advertising. Here are some key points to discuss as a family to help your children think critically about advertising. For more information go to mediasmart.org.uk

    • Who makes ads, why and how?
    • Who are ads aimed at? Are they aimed at you?
    • Look at how images, sounds and words are combined to make cool ads. Do you like what you see? Why or why not?
    • What do you think about the people shown in advertisements?
    • Do the families shown look like yours?
    • How are sports and activities shown?
    • How do the ads you are shown persuade you?

    Help your kids become Media Smart! Play this game with your kids to help them learn about how brands appear and are used.

    Media Smart is a non-profit media literacy programme for school children aged 6 to 11 years old, focused on advertising. Media Smart are supported by the UK and EU governments in their pledge to help children be safe online and are developing tools for teachers to help children think critically about media and advertising. Media Smart has teamed up with McDonald's to help kids learn about advertising and brands with this fun and interactive game.

    The Grown Up Dashboard is your main tool on Happy Studio where you manage your child(ren)'s Happy Studio account(s).

    • In the Learning Centre see what games you child loves most, what areas of learning they are improving in and where they are spending most of their time.
    • The Gift Centre is where you'll find all the creative gifts your children have made for you in Happy Studio.
    • Go to the Rewards Centre to gift your children with Stars, that they can spend on cool stuff in any of the Happy Studio stores.
